Teen Died While Doing ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

If you’ve been online at Social Sites all during the past couple of weeks, you’ve t seen a ton of “Ice Bucket” challenges. These videos, where people dump ice cold water on themselves to support ALS research and challenge their friends to do the same (or pay a lump sum to charity), have been getting more and more popular. And it’s not just popular with “everyday” people either – all kinds of celebrities have been getting in on the cause as well. Chris Martin, George W. Bush, and Victoria Beckham are just a few of those participants. While all the videos are pretty much the same, they are unique as well. Some people dump water on themselves and some have water dumped on them by others. Most of them though, follow the same format and are in no way dangerous. However, in trying to do something unique and creative for the Ice Bucket challenge, at least one young man has lost his life.
Cameron Lancaster, an 18-year-old from Scotland, died this past Sunday as a result of drowning in a quarry while attempting to complete the Ice Bucket challenge.

All of the sad details of Lancaster’s death aren’t known at this time, but it is believed he was jumping off a cliff into the quarry (as many others have done in the past) and drowned as a result.
While it’s fun to think of interesting and creative ways to do the Ice Bucket challenge, please keep your personal safety, as well as the safety of others, in mind at all times.
Have you heard of others being killed or injured while trying to complete the challenge? Let us know in the comments section below.
